I’m Goin’ Back To Cali…
I just got back to JB’s house in San Jose after being in Denver for the last 2 weeks.
I’m elated to be in a familiar place right now. The last time I was here was about 2 1/2 months ago, before my Sausalito roommate *nightmare*. I was living in the guest room for about a month (right after Burning Man and my move from Austin) while looking for my own place to live here in the Bay area. It got a little depressing being stuck in San Jose for an entire month but finding a decent place in the Bay area is difficult. Honestly though, the familiarity of this house feels comforting right now and, of course, being around one of of my best friends John Beaver. I am a happy boy.
Anyway, I was in Denver the last 2 weeks working on a remix for Shiny Toy Gun’s new single “Speaking Japanese” with Joman (it turned out great BTW). Next Thursday I’m scheduled to fly to Vegas to hang with my Dad for a day, see the Michael Jackson Cirque De Soleil show at Mandalay Bay and wreak general havoc on the town for the rest of the weekend. Other than recently being rendered dateless for the trip (my date’s Grandfather is on his deathbed and she needs to stick around for her family – totally understandable), it sounds like a lot of fun. I’ll be with John and his girl and we’ll have a great (read: debaucherous) time. Hell it’s Vegas. I’ll probably find a date *there*. 🙂
Denver was good. I mean, it had it’s ups and downs but for the most part was productive and enjoyable. I was grateful for the opportunity to work with Joman and learn a few new things about music, but I am even more grateful to have learned a few new things about myself by hanging around him. I’ll write more about it when I write my book, but it was definitely interesting. Let’s just say that he is almost the exact same person I was when *I* was 24. You can learn a lot about the things you want to change in your own life by seeing those traits acted out by others. It was good perspective and I’m happy to have him in my life for both reasons.
One definite highlight of the trip: Playing Silent Hill 2 and singing the subtitles to the game in Rick Astley voices for hours (he’s way better at it than I am, but man was it funny). Allie didn’t seem as amused as we were, but she was probably just jealous. That or she didn’t want us to wake up her son. 😉
After Vegas I fly straight to LA to start working on my album with Joy (Ken Hankins). I’m happy to start making that music… because it’s truly the music that makes me the most happy. More on that when the time comes. For now, I’m going to watch a little Hulu and enjoy a little R&R after my travel day.
Again… I feel happy! (Think Monty Python – Holy Grail)
